Dunyeti

Identity, love, and allyship — set to the melodies of the Middle East.

New York Theater Festival · 2025

The Story

Set in Cairo, Egyptian artist and AUC Professor Yesmine prepares for her engagement — unaware of her cousin’s past with her fiancé. A story that weaves culture, love, and self-discovery against the melodies of the Middle East, mirroring the timeless tale of Layla and Majnun.

Dunyeti explores identity, love, and allyship in the LGBTQ+ movement in the Middle East — a contemporary story carried by classical roots and an original score.
